MPO Job Description
OVERVIEW
Member Political Organizers will work together to grow the membership and political power of our Local. MPOs will be trained on how to recruit other members to participate in our ongoing campaigns and sign new members. MPOs work will vary from week to week depending on the needs of each campaign and chapter but will include worksite visits, one-on-one meetings, virtual events, community meetings, door knocking, lobbying, email writing and social media use.
TIME COMMITTMENT/COMPENSATION
Minimum 10 hours/week (January - November 2022)
$20/hour (max 20 hours/week)
Minimum of 1 night shift and 1 weekend shift per week.
- A shift will be between 3-6 hours, depending on the day/time. It can include door knocking, phone or text banking, recruiting volunteers, meetings with members and not-yet-members,
RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend training about ongoing union work and campaigns
Recruit and train members to participate in ongoing campaigns
Attend coalition/campaign strategy meetings
Give campaign updates at Chapter meetings
Use relational organizing tools to talk to members about campaigns
- Relational organizing tools are mobile apps on your smart phone that allow you to communicate about the campaigns to people in your own personal and professional networks
Door knocking/Phone and Text Banks for campaigns
Ask workers to join the union and sign up for COPE
Participate with community groups or partner organizations that are working with SEIU Local 205 on the campaigns
