Call to Convention!

June 15, 2016

Convention2016_bannerIn accordance with Article 18 of SEIU Local Union 205’s Constitution and Bylaws, this shall serve as the official call for the Local Convention to be held on November 5, 2016 at the Fifty Forward building on Rains Ave. in Nashville. We encourage all members to participate in this process and fill all Delegate plus Alternate slots allotted to your chapter.

Nominations for Delegates and Alternates are to be held during your chapter meetings in August (the schedule for these meetings is below) and elections, if needed, will be held at chapter meetings in September. Additionally, each chapter will be expected to designate a Delegate to give their report at the Convention.

Up for election this year are the offices of President, Executive Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Executive Vice-President of Organizing, and three Trustee positions.

Nominations must be made at the Convention from the floor. Here are the eligibility requirements, per the Local’s Bylaws:

A person shall be eligible to be nominated and to serve as an elected Local Union officer who has been a member in good standing in the Local Union for at least two (2) years immediately preceding the nomination and who has during all of that time paid the full dues required for the working members of the Local Union within each month when due. However, if any candidate’s Chapter has not been in existence the time required, a candidate for office must have been a member in good standing for the entire time since affiliation of the Chapter. No member may be a candidate for more than one local-wide office at a time. The Local Union Convention may waive the foregoing requirements.

Remember, all members are invited to attend the Convention, but only Delegates can vote. For more information on how you can participate, call the office toll free at 800-447-1330.
