SEIU Endorses Carol Berz for Chattanooga Council!

Members from the Chattanooga chapter voted to endorse Carol Berz in her bid to replace Marti Rutherford for the District 6 seat on the City Council.
“Dr. Berz brings years of experience as a mediator, a businesswoman, and a community leader who is ready to hit the ground running on day one to move the city forward,” said Sharon Blanks, a communications officer with Chattanooga 9-1-1 who also heads up the union’s local political committee. “Lately, city employees have not been getting the respect – or the pay – that they deserve. We feel that Carol understands our situation, that she’s willing to listen, and that she’s willing to work hard to make sure that city workers’ concerns are being addressed”.
“The decision to endorse Carol was made by rank-and-file members of our union,” said Jeff Berntsen, SEIU’s local Organizer. “Regular workers from all across the county participated in the decision, and they are determined to have a more worker-friendly environment in Chattanooga, especially in the public sector”.
Early voting is from January 16-31, and Election Day is on February 5. A full list of dates and voting locations is available through the Hamilton County Election Commission.
