Metro General Gets Loan With Help from Union Action
Thanks to political action by your Union, a loan extension for General Hospital was approved by an overwhelming majority of the Metro Council at their meeting on Feb. 19.
Your union leaders worked with hospital administrators and learned that General is losing millions of dollars because of a private vendor who has not paid their bills to the hospital. SEIU wrote a letter about this issue to councilmembers and talked to them about it at the Budget & Finance committee meeting.
Once the council was educated on all the facts, the loan resolution (
RS-2008-144) went on to pass by a vote of 34-3. “The loan allows General to continue to provide care and services to those in need,” says Trista Boseman, a union steward who was active in this campaign. “General still has some tough times ahead, but SEIU is going to keep working with administration and the legislators to help bring stability to the hospital”.
