Workers Win in 2007 Nashville Elections!

SEIU had a successful election night as 8 candidates of the 12 we endorsed won their races on Sept. 11.  Congratulations to the council At-Large members we endorsed: Megan Barry, Jerry Maynard, Ronnie Steine, and to our endorsed candidates in the districts - Lonnell Matthews, Darren Jernigan, Anna Page, Edith Taylor Langster, and Jason Holleman.

These candidates join the ranks of dozens of other winners that SEIU supported in the Aug. 2 Metro races, including Frank Harrison, Walter Hunt, Pam Murray, Mike Jameson, Erik Cole, Jim Forkum, Rip Ryman, Carl Burch, James Bruce Stanley, Keith Durbin, Emily Evans, Sean McGuire, Greg Adkins, Vivian Wilhoite, Jim Hodge, Parker Toler, Sam Coleman, and Bo Mitchell.

This year's "Purple-Powered People Campaign" was an unqualified success thanks to the hard work of our member political organizers, Local staff, the supporters of the SEIU COPE fund, our "sister union" Local 221, and of course our membership - who voted in record numbers this year.  Thanks to our members' political action, we now have a council where workers will have a voice when it comes to dealing with agreements, budgets, and the new Mayor - Karl Dean.

Whether you made phone calls for our candidates, knocked doors for them, worked the polls on Election Day, or just showed up to vote the union's slate of candidates - we thank you for making the Purple-Powered People Campaign a victory for Nashville workers!
