VICTORY: I.O.D. Dispute in Schools Settled

Your Union wins cases and grievances all year long. Our Representatives and Shop Stewards have gotten wronged employees back pay, promotions they deserved, and even saved people their jobs. But because of privacy and legal issues, we cannot always discuss these victories in detail publicly. Here’s one we can talk about...

If you are a part-time Metro Schools employee, you recently received a letter from MNPS telling you that if you were injured on the job, you are not covered. As soon as your leaders got wind of this, we went to work for you. We tried to track down where this originated from… to no avail. No one wants to take credit for this dastardly deed. To be fair, it did not come from Administration at the school board or from our Benefit Board representatives.

We may not be able to find out who is responsible for starting the ball rolling, but we are going to stop it from running over our members. At the Metro Employee Benefit Board meeting on December 2nd, union president Doug Collier was able to get this absurd action stayed until the next meeting on December 16. This means that part-time MNPS employees are temporarily covered against on-the job injuries. We will continue the fight on your behalf and keep you posted.

Along the same line, we are also taking a stand to allow MNPS employees the same benefit as other general government employees, the benefit of using General Hospital without incurring deductibles or co-pays. We will keep you posted as developments happen on these issues.
