MHA Considers Outsourcing of Security Guards
At a meeting with SEIU officials several months ago, Metro Hospital Authority administrators told the Union that they are considering the possibility of outsourcing security guard functions at General Hospital. The Hospital Board approved the action and the administration is preparing to put out an RFP (Request for Procurement) to begin taking bids from security companies to do the work.
When rumors of a possible bid by the anti-union firm Wackenhut surfaced, SEIU took action and turned up the heat at Metro Council. You’ll remember that Wackenhut had been caught in two recent scandals—one which involved stolen voter records from the Election Commission and another which had the company being caught billing the city for hours not worked.
Meanwhile, the Union is still working on a plan to try and ensure that the security guards at General are able to keep their seniority and benefits with Metro. The situation is still developing and we will let you know more details as they are available.
