First “Time To Talk” meetings get Feedback and Results!

On Oct. 17 and 18, your union steward Trista Boseman (along with union staff) met with over 50 workers to talk about what’s happening in all three Hospital Authority worksites.  Those meetings were only the first in a series of “Time To Talk” sessions that your Union will be holding on a monthly basis. The purpose of those meetings is to improve the line of communications between the Local and your workplace. We also want to hear about problems and issues that you are facing on a daily basis. In fact, thanks to your feedback, the Union was able to address a couple of important issues that you cared about.

In one instance, a supervisor was cancelling previously approved vacation leave and telling staff that they could only take 3 consecutive days of vacation at a time. That is wrong. Thanks to workers letting the Union know about this, your representative was able to deal with the issue. Now, that supervisor has a clearer understanding about vacation and approval policy.

There had been multiple complaints about another supervisor disrespecting workers on the same floor. The Union was able to bring this to H.R.’s attention once we knew about the problem and that supervisor is now acting in a more professional manner towards workers.

Remember, your Union representatives can’t help address your problems if they don’t know about them. That’s why it’s so important for you to come to the Time To Talk sessions and tell us what you want to see addressed. We also need to let you know about what’s happening at Metro Council that affects your job. And we’ll begin keeping you updated on what’s happening in next year’s Bargaining sessions (see story below).

So take a few minutes at the beginning or end of your shift to come out to the next Time To Talk meetings in your worksite. It’s a new day for SEIU and we need your input and participation to build strength and better serve you and your co-workers.
