Memphis Workers Cry Foul on Benefit Cuts

School boss gets raise and sick time, workers lose vision & dental

SEIU members from across Memphis came to the School Board to protest cuts to their dental and vision coverage and a 10% increase to individual coverage, which would be a devastating blow to workers and their families.  These draconian cuts come just one week after School Board Superintendent Kriner Cash was voted a doubling of his vacation and sick time and a 2% raise.

SEIU members and their families held signs and spoke about the unfairness of these cuts. Barbara Ann McGee, a cafeteria manager at Holmes Road Elementary School said, "I'm a loyal Board employee, I've always worked hard and it just hurt to know that the workers in the schools are being asked to suffer and sacrifice while those at the administration are giving themselves more retreats and days off."
