Meet Kay and Jeff: Your Union Chief Stewards!

Meet Kay Golden and Jeff Massey - the Chief Stewards who represent you and your union co-workers at Methodist Medical Center.

 Kay Golden

Kay Golden is the “new” RN Chief Steward, but new only in the fact that she was recently re-elected to the position she has held several times in the past.

Kay is a tremendous asset to SEIU and her coworkers. In addition to chief steward duties, she also serves on the executive board, and holds a Masters Degree in healthcare administration.

Originally hired at Methodist in 1975, Kay left for a short time, and returned in 1980, becoming heavily involved with SEIU a few years later.

She has been married to husband Dan for 29 years, and has a daughter, Andrea, and a son, Aaron.

Kay likes UT football traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

“Without a union, you have no voice”, Kay says. “No access to decision making that affects not only our work, but also our patients.”

Jeff Massey, Oak Ridge, MMC Jeff Massey is the new Service & Tech (S&T) Chief Steward. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and has been involved in unions his entire working life, including the UAW, and UFCW. Always considering Tennessee “home” because of his family, he was able to make the move south in 1998 after being laid off from Ford Motor Company.

Jeff has been a registered respiratory therapist since 2004 after graduating from Roane State Community College, where he served as class president. He considers himself fortunate to have several of his former classmates working alongside him at MMC.

He has been married to wife April since 2000, and has one daughter, Haley.

Jeff loves to go on cruises with family and coworkers, and has pictures he can show you to prove that a good time is always had. He collects Three Stooges memorabilia and likes to be outside.

“Being a member of the union is more important now than ever before”, he says. “It is not always us against them. We have to work together to provide the best healthcare in a very competitive atmosphere.”

Kay and Jeff are committed to building union membership and confronting the challenges our members face, as well as work with administration to find answers to problems we all face as a community healthcare provider.
