MMC Chapter Launches New E-Mail Newsletter for Members!
In an effort to improve and update communication with members, SEIU at Methodist Medical Center has introduced a new email database and newsletter, with the goal of educating members about news and events happening at MMC and with Local 205.
"The hardest part is acquiring everyone's email addresses" according to S&T chief steward
Jeff Massey. "This will take some time, but eventually will become a vital tool to update our members about union activities."
The first email was sent out to 42 members, with the database still being compiled. It consisted of a brief introduction explaining the purpose, and outcomes it hopes to achieve. Doug Collier was introduced as the Local's newly-elected President for the benefit of new members, and finally a call was sent out for participation.
In addition a newsletter is getting the finishing touches, and will be printed and posted on the union boards at the hospital. This is not the first time MMC has had a newsletter, but its eminent return has members talking. "People used to look so forward to the newsletter. It was something they could read on their breaks and take home with them to let them know what issues we as a union were facing, and what we were doing about it." states
Mary Neubaur, RN on the Family Birthing Unit. Mary is the former chief steward for the RN's.
The newsletter, as well as the emails will be sent out at least monthly, and fellow union brothers and sisters are encouraged to contribute news articles, birth announcements, birthday wishes, editorials, etc. "We really want these tools to be tools for and by the people", concludes Jeff. "We are smack in the middle of our current contract, and now is the time to re-energize and build our membership, as well as show administration we are strong and ready to work with them to solve problems we face in today's volatile healthcare climate."
