"Feeley Act" Passes, Gives All Chattanooga Employees Due Process

SEIU Local 205 was instrumental in the passage of the so-called “Feeley Act” that passed unanimously at the Chattanooga city council. Sponsored by interim councilman Mike Feeley, this new legislation closes a loophole that has been in the city code for years.

Under the old code, city employees who were categorized as “laborers” were not able to have their grievances heard by the city council. This was unfair to a lot of workers – including many who worked in Parks & Rec and the Public Works departments – who had legitimate appeals and grievances, but could not be heard. Thanks to this new resolution, all employee appeals and grievances may be heard by the council.  This is now part of the city’s official grievance procedure.

Thanks to Councilman Feeley for his hard work on the issue, to union activists that pushed hard for its passage, and to the councilmembers who supported us.
