Chattanooga Chapter Prepares for Upcoming Council Race!
Chattanooga members are continuing the momentum from their win on the
Andy Berke campaign by forming a Political Subcommittee that plans to be active in the city council election in District 6.
Thanks to union action over the last several months in a contract struggle, SEIU members
brought a complaint against anti-union councilwoman Marti Rutherford, forcing her to resign from office. As a result, the District 6 council seat is now up for grabs in a special election on Feb. 5 and members decided to stay involved.
Subcommittee chair Sharon Blanks urged members to get involved and keep the pressure on city officials as close to a dozen members signed up to help out with drafting a candidate questionnaire, interviewing the candidates, making endorsement decisions, and following through by actually campaigning for the union’s candidate.
Stay tuned for more information on the District 6 race and how you can help elect a pro-worker candidate to office.
