VICTORY! Injured Workers Get Relief Thanks to Union Action!
If you’re injured on the job and placed on injury leave by the doctor, you’ll be paid while you’re being treated and while you recover, right? Well some supervisors don’t think so.
Andreta Ancrum and Deborah Harrison, both food service employees in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), sustained injuries in separate incidences while performing their jobs. They were placed on medical leave by their doctors and should have been paid all wages while they recovered. But they weren’t. It was only after they contacted their SEIU union rep that things began to work out. “Thank God for the Union for helping me get the pay that I earned,” says Andreta (pictured at right).
This just goes to show how being a union member and standing up for your rights by calling your Representative early in the game is necessary to get the results you want. Just because the rules are in place, that doesn’t mean all the supervisors will do the right thing. Obviously, some are used to making decisions without regards for what is right or what the rules are. Together we are stronger and achieve more Union Victories! A victory for one is a victory for all!
