VICTORY: Union Action Stops Management Cronyism!
Thanks to attentive union members working in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), a violation of school policy by Management was shut down. They filled a senior position without publicly posting the job or holding interviews - a clear violation of the MNPS Support Handbook's procedure for filling vacancies.
The Union brought this to the attention of school Administrators, who quickly responded by agreeing to post the position and conduct open interviews. The person that had been assigned to the position would not receive any preferential treatment during that process, making the process be competitive and based on qualifications, not connections.
Your Union is only as effective as its members, and that's why when you see incidents like this happening in your workplace, immediately inform your shop steward or other union leaders.
