William Tipton

Building Engineer, Lucie E. Campbell Elementary

William Tipton is a Building Engineer at Lucie E. Campbell Elementary School in North Memphis. He’s worked for MCS for 17 years and he supervises the custodial staff and is in charge of maintaining the whole school building.

William has been a leader in the union since SEIU first came to Memphis City Schools back in 2005. He was an Organizing Committee member who helped build the MCS chapter from the ground up. He signed up new members and helped organize union meetings.

William also helped negotiate the first union agreement, so he knows what it takes to get a good contract. “The only way we get a good contract is if everyone participates,” William says. “We can’t do all the things we want to do until we have more participation by members and more members, period. Once we get more members and more participation by those members, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish”.
