Penny Laymance

Penny Laymance is a unit secretary on the pulmonary floor at Methodist Medical Center and has been a union member since she started working at MMC in 1998.

Penny lives in Karnes with her 10 year old daughter, Katelyn, and the two of them spend as much time swimming as they can.  Penny also stays very busy attending all the sports activities Katelyn is involved in.  The two of them attend Faith Promise Church, and enjoy going to the movies and listening to all kinds of music.  Penny is a beloved fixture on the 5th floor, due in part to her ever present smile, and plans on going to Pellissippi State in the fall to become a nurse.

“I came to Methodist because of the union”, Penny says.  “I have worked in other places that didn’t have a union, and I have seen how important it is to have representation.  My SEIU family has my back”.  Penny knows how stressful the job can be and tries to be a force for positive energy.  “I just can’t imagine doing what we do without a union. We really need to stick together."
