James Fleming

Memphis City Schools

James Fleming is the Supervising Building Engineer at Central High School and has been employed with MCS for 26 years. He is also a Steward for the Custodial Operations workers. He graduated from Booker T. Washington and his career with Memphis City Schools began at Bellevue Junior High School.

James is a firm believer in the work that SEIU does. “Before we formed this Union we didn’t have any representation,” he says. “You were all on your own in dealing with principals, custodial operations, or the Board. It is only through the Union that we are able to gain anything at this job, be it supplements or respect for seniority. We must do everything we can to support the Union and to sign up new members.”
