Jacqueline Claywell
Application Tech, Metro General Services
Jacqueline Claywell has worked for Metro since 1993 and has been an SEIU member for almost 10 years. She joined the Union and served as a Shop Steward for the same reason she likes working in the Metro Call Center—to serve her fellow citizens and Metro co-workers.
Jacqueline is one of those who makes the connection between her job and how it is affected by politics. She is one of the Union’s most experienced political activists, having worked on countless campaigns to help elect candidates who support a pro-worker agenda. She’s also been a regular fixture at Metro Council meetings—lobbying legislators to improve funding, pay, and benefits for city workers.
“To me, joining the Union was only the first step in having a voice on the job,” Claywell says. “We have to follow through by getting involved in how our government operates if we want to really see a system that works for workers”.
Jacqueline urges all SEIU members to join her in helping elect pro-labor candidates to the Governor’s office and the U.S. Senate in November.
If you are making the “political connection” between your job and political action, make sure that you are registered to vote and to contact your Union Representative to find out how you can get more involved.
