Dianna Ferguson

Methodist Medical Center

Dianna Ferguson is a Communications Operator at Methodist Medical Center and will celebrate 15 years of service this year.  She began her career at Methodist in 1994 as a CNA on 3 West, after retiring from Levi Strauss.  She was an active union member there as well, running the sewing machines, working in QC, and training employees before becoming a supervisor.

Dianna comes from a hard-working family, and appreciates the opportunity to work in a union hospital.  "My grandfather worked in the coal mines; mom was raised in a coal mining town.  Our family knew what it was like to be poor”.  Dianna loves dogs and cats, reading, and has some talents folks may not know about.  "I love to read cookbooks, and I love to cook gourmet dishes", Dianna says.  "I love to try new recipes".  Dianna has one son, Mont, and a 13-year old grandson, Menes.  When not in the kitchen creating masterpieces, she stays very busy, taking him wherever he needs to go.  Since he has a GPA of 4.0, plays basketball, and is a member of the Beta Club, she doesn’t mind spoiling him rotten.  In addition to her friendly voice at the communications desk, she works outside of MMC as a sitter taking care of patients. "I am a people person," says Dianna proudly.

When asked why being a union member is so important to her, she had some powerful words to share. "I am union because I believe in fairness.  There are managers who make decisions for you, but they don’t do the job.  When changes are made here, we can have a voice, and help guide the process.  And with skyrocketing healthcare costs, the union fights for our health benefits.  That is important to me”.
