SEIU Supports "America Recycles Day"

Challenges Businesses to Create More Green Jobs

SEIU was proud to be part of a coalition that celebrated “America Recycles Day” by calling on corporate America to help create American jobs by “going green”.

Local 205, along with the Nashville NAACP, the Tennessee Alliance for Progress, and environmental advocacy group B.U.R.N.T., gathered to promote conservation, recycling, and weatherization at one of Metro Public Works’ convenience centers.

“More composting and recycling can create American jobs and promote a healthier and more efficient future,” says Maura Lee Albert with SEIU Local 205. “Metro has demonstrated a commitment to recycling programs in the schools, composting programs in Public Works, and by promoting green power and weatherization at NES. We call on Nashville’s private sector to continue that progress by using their resources and talent to help create good paying American jobs and protect our environment.”

SEIU members themselves are on the front lines in creating innovative environmental programs. We've reported before that Local 205 member Sherry Force pioneered a new student/community recycling program at Granbery Elementary school in Nashville.
