SEIU Hosts Amazing Show by Award-Winner Sarah Jones
SEIU was proud to host a special performance by Sarah Jones. Sarah is a critically-acclaimed Broadway actress and writer who is most famous for her Tony Award-winning performance of "Bridge and Tunnel". Sarah recently put on a performance of her new show "A Right to Care" for the Obamas at the White House and your union was honored to bring her to Nashville to do this very special performance that focused on healthcare, poverty, and racial injustice.
The show was incredible and I personally want to thank everyone who came out to see Sarah Jones perform. Our turnout was approximately 170 people and Local 205 was well represented. We also had one of our shop stewards, Trina Jordan, speak as one of the panelists after the show. Trina works in the homeless services division of Metro Social Services and she shared her day-to-day stories about the poor and neglected in our community and how it is all of our moral responsibility to help them in some way. Another former member from the Water Department, Danny Mosley, talked about how just seeing Sarah's performance has changed his life. Danny is disabled and made an unforgettable impression as he walked to Sarah and gave her a hug.
Thanks to our partners who helped put the event together, including the team at Change That Works, the Partnership for Quality Care, and Rev. Jerry Maynard and his staff at Southside Community Church.
