SEIU/DCSO Poker Game Benefits Injured Union Member

SEIU Local 205 members from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) hosted a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament to benefit Brother Daniel Harding, who recently sustained debilitating injuries.  All proceeds from the tournament, totaling almost $800, will be donated to Officer Harding to help with his medical and personal expenses.

This event demonstrated the unprecedented level of cooperation between SEIU and the DCSO Administration.  Local President Doug Collier participated in the early round at 6:00 pm before leaving to attend to other pressing matters.  Jim Kramer, DCSO Human Resources, won the grand prize of a Nintendo Wii.  The prize is to be auctioned off, with those proceeds also being contributed to the fund for Officer Harding.

SEIU's Scotty Davidson was awarded the First-Out Trophy, along with a prize pack of Go Fish and Old Maid card decks. Tim Coleman, a candidate for the Metro School Board (and a law enforcement officer), also made an appearance.  While he did not join the players, Coleman is making a personal contribution to the benefit fund.

The evening was organized by DCSO Chief Steward Robert Gilmer, who wishes to thank all the members and other guests who made this such a successful event.  Considering the high level of interest and participation, tentative plans are being made for a similar event in the near future.  All of those in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the evening of friendly competition, and fun.

Our very special thanks go to Bill Robertson for helping to run the tournament and to Lloyd Elmore from Ingram Entertainment for the generous donation of some amazing prizes.
